In recent years, major sporting and cultural events such as the Olympic Games have emerged as significant elements of public policy, particularly in efforts to achieve urban regeneration. ‘How to increase sport participation in major urban areas’ Urban life has common limitations such as safety and mobility, for example, which hinder participation in sports; moreover, as they strive to increase participation rates among its population, major cities face growing competition from the entertainment industry as well as from new technologies. Due to a growing trend of people migrating to major cities and as a consequence practising less sport, TSE Consulting conducted a study with various cities across the world to look into how they face urban challenges and what other major cities should do to increase participation rates in their municipalities. The study report will be available for free at City Events 2012.
